Key stakeholders came together at Solar Week 2024 to discuss advancements in solar energy and the Kingdom’s renewable goals.

On August 28, 2024, the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers hosted the “Solar Week 2024: Conference & Awards,” bringing together key stakeholders in the solar energy sector. The event featured a Leadership Roundtable on scaling up utility solar projects and the role of competitive bidding in driving developments, such as the Sakaka solar power plant.

Notable speakers included Mr. Adeeb Ahmad Alameen (Energy Transition Manager, Alfanar Projects), Mr. Hamzah Alqahtani (Senior Business Developer, EDF), and Mr. Jesus Gutierrez (General Manager, X-NOOR). Together, the speakers shared insights on technological advancements and the modernization of Saudi Arabia’s power grid.

Discussions centered on how these innovations can support the Kingdom’s ambitious goal of generating 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Moderated by Quentin Blommaert (Head of the H2-diplo Office in Riyadh), the conference fostered collaboration among industry leaders, emphasizing the need for human capital and R&D in adapting solar technologies to local conditions. In this vein, the event marked a significant step forward in Saudi Arabia’s journey toward a sustainable energy future.
