At the BMW Foundation Herbet Quandt’s Energy Security Hub accompanying the Munich Security Conference 2025, experts explored the geopolitical implications of the global energy transition and the emerging hydrogen economy.

Kazakhstan

The first Regional Central Asian and European Hydrogen Diplomacy Forum in Astana, Kazakhstan, marked a significant step toward international cooperation on green hydrogen. Experts from Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the EU gathered to discuss strategies to advance green hydrogen.

Kenya

On 10 May 2024, at the 2nd Kenyan-German Green Hydrogen Symposium, high-ranking government officials from Germany and Kenya governments launched the Kenyan-German Hydrogen Diplomacy Office (“H2-diplo Office”) in Nairobi, the first of its kind in East Africa.

COP28 is over and H2-diplo was part of it with the side event “Fertilizing the Future: Using Green Hydrogen Value Chains to Address the Climate-Food-Security Nexus”.

Angola

The First Southern African–European Green Hydrogen Forum was held in Luanda and organised by the Angolan government in partnership with the German-Angolan Hydrogen Office – H2 diplo.

On May 29, 2024, H2-diplo hosted the second conference in the “Future Forum Green Hydrogen” series at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, gathering more than 120 experts, diplomats, policymakers and stakeholders from the energy sector.

On 1 July 2025, H2-diplo hosted the third edition of the Future Forum Green Hydrogen in Berlin. Around 150 policymakers, researchers, and private sector representatives gathered to discuss how green hydrogen can drive industrial competitiveness, energy security and decarbonization.

Angola

The 2nd Symposium of the German-Angolan Hydrogen Office (H2-diplo) brought together key stakeholders to discuss Angola’s potential in green hydrogen, its role in the energy transition, and strategies for foreign investment, workforce development, and economic diversification.

Kenya

The discussion highlighted the success factor of the German-Kenya cooperation which has been instrumental in preparing and growing Kenya’s green hydrogen market since 2020. The session called for more cohesion amongst partners and derisking green hydrogen investments.

Kazakhstan

Highlighting the transformative potential of renewable energy and green hydrogen, the ‘Shaping Central Asia’s Future Energy Landscape’ conference in Aktau brought together experts to foster regional collaboration and accelerate the shift towards a sustainable energy future.

Oman

H2-diplo’s Oman Office hosted a Decarbonization Dialogue in Muscat, bringing together key players from Oman and Europe to discuss Oman’s role in the emerging green hydrogen economy.
