GIZ’s H2-diplo and the German Energy Agency (dena) have released the case study Kazakhstan on the Way to Green Hydrogen Ramp-Up, which explains why Kazakhstan is well-positioned for competitive green hydrogen while detailing what must change to reach scale.
Building on the country’s strong wind and solar potential, the study maps export pathways with a focus on hydrogen derivatives (ammonia/LOHC), identifies gaps in infrastructure, regulation, certification and finance, and sets out a phased roadmap to align with EU frameworks (RED III, CBAM) and de-risk investment. Drawing on input from industry, developers, and government, it complements the Kazakh-German Energy Dialogue and feeds into recommendations for Kazakhstan’s National Hydrogen Strategy.
The study is available here in English and Russian.
