Advancements in Renewable Energy Discussed at Jeddah Event

A collaborative event at the Movenpick City Star Hotel in Jeddah brought together experts from academia, industry, and government to discuss renewable energy and clean technologies, focusing on Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on challenges and opportunities in the energy transition.

 

On November 12th, 2024, a collaborative event took place at the Movenpick City Star Hotel in Jeddah, bringing together 30 participants from various universities, governmental and non-governmental institutions, and companies to discuss the developments in renewable energy and clean technologies within Saudi Arabia. The event, introduced by Quentin Blommaert, aimed to address the challenges and opportunities associated with the Kingdom’s ambitious energy goals under Vision 2030. Key speakers included Philipp Dienstbier from the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, who emphasized support for renewable initiatives, and Prof. Husain Almakrami, who presented on significant renewable energy projects. Discussions also covered Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), with contributions from Dr. Aziz Nechace and Prof. Abdulaziz Alturki, highlighting interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants engaged in lively dialogues about the challenges facing green hydrogen production and the need for supportive policies. The event concluded with a summary of key points, underscoring the importance of collaboration among academia, industry, and government stakeholders in advancing the Kingdom’s energy transition.
