Proposal for an Angolan National Hydrogen Strategy
In June 2023, the Angolan government announced a proposal to develop a National Hydrogen Strategy, with a roadmap to gradually move away from oil dependence towards sustainable energy utilisation and decarbonisation. The proposed strategy aligns with the global movement towards sustainable energy and is expected to deliver a range of benefits to the Angolan people. The government’s commitment to this initiative demonstrates its dedication to advancing sustainable development while reducing its carbon footprint.

The First Southern African–European Green Hydrogen Forum was held in Luanda and organised by the Angolan government in partnership with the German-Angolan Hydrogen Office – H2 diplo.
German-Angola Hydrogen Office creates the Green Hydrogen working group
Angola has set high objectives for its energy transition and intends to prioritise the development of alternative energy sources. The country possesses a potential hydroelectric capacity of 18 GW, a potential solar capacity of 55 GW, and a potential wind capacity of 3 GW, which positions it as a viable candidate for green hydrogen production.
First German-Angolan Symposium on Green Hydrogen
On Thursday, May 14, 2022, a symposium was held on the topic of Green Hydrogen. Angola and Germany have strengthened their collaboration in green hydrogen through the establishment of the German-Angolan Hydrogen Diplomacy Office – H2 diplo.
