The global energy transition is accelerating, and green hydrogen has moved from a futuristic concept to a cornerstone of industrial decarbonisation, energy security, and economic resilience.
To address these critical questions, the H2-diplo Office Ukraine, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, is proud to announce the Hydrogen Futures Ukraine Symposium 2026, taking place on Thursday, 24 September 2026, in Lviv, Ukraine.
Why is this topic on time?
For Ukraine, developing green hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) value chains represents a strategic opportunity to connect directly to the European energy network, modernise regions, accelerate green recovery efforts, and foster sustainable economic growth. However, moving from strategic ambitions to practical implementation requires overcoming key regulatory, financial, and technical challenges.
This landmark gathering marks the first high-level international hydrogen symposium hosted in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion. It aims to foster structured dialogue and facilitate partnerships between Ukrainian stakeholders, German and European policymakers. The event will gather decision-makers, industry experts, local communities, academia and international partners to discuss green hydrogen value chains, EU integration, and bankable PtX projects.
What topics are in focus?
- Strategic Outlook & EU Integration: Aligning Ukraine’s hydrogen regulatory frameworks with EU standards, transportation networks, and storage infrastructure.
- Bankability & Value Chains: De-risking investments, identifying off-takers, and reaching Final Investment Decisions (FID) in a complex market environment.
- ESG & Climate Impact: Guaranteeing sustainability, robust governance, transparent certification, and avoiding greenwashing.
- Just Transition & Regional Growth: Exploring skills development, job creation, and future-proof economic opportunities for Ukrainian regions and communities.
Networking and Project Showcases
In addition to plenary panels and thematic sessions, the Symposium will serve as a dynamic platform for peer-to-peer networking, knowledge exchange, and early-stage green hydrogen project showcases. Participants will have the opportunity to establish direct international collaborations and explore joint technical and investment initiatives.
