Kenya

Kenya is the largest economy in East Africa and, thanks to its developed geothermal energy resources, is considered a green pioneer on the continent, as 90% of its electricity consumption is already covered by renewable resources. Kenya aims to achieve 100% renewable energy supply by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. Therefore, relevant industries should be decarbonised with the help of green hydrogen.
The German and Kenyan governments signed a climate and development partnership in December 2022. H2-diplo will contribute to this partnership by, among other things, promoting the high-level dialogue between Kenya and Germany on energy transition, green hydrogen, and the development of climate-neutral value chains.
