H2-diplo Office

Colombia

Official opening: May 2024

Currently being one of the largest oil producers in Latin America and the fifth largest coal exporter in the world, Colombia also possesses massive potential for renewable energies (esp. wind and solar). To leverage this potential, Colombia has set ambitious goals to reduce GHG emissions by 51% until 2030 (compared to BAU-scenarios) and reach climate neutrality by 2050. Acknowledging the role of hydrogen in a future net-zero economy, Colombia already published a hydrogen roadmap in 2022 and put the first pilot plant into operation. Germany and Colombia signed a joint climate and energy partnership in June 2023 in order to work together more closely towards a fair energy transition in the future.

The H2-diplo office in Bogotá will support this partnership by focusing on green hydrogen, industrial decarbonization, and climate-neutral value chains.
